Human roles

Your ability sits in hotbar slot 9. Use it to activate. Everyone gets a flashlight in slot 8 (use it to toggle, and grab batteries to recharge).

Tank

45s
32 HP · 20% damage reduction · a bit slower

Bulwark: 80% damage reduction for 6 seconds. Stand in the doorway so the others can run.

Kit: Shotgun, Machete, iron chestplate

Medic

40s
20 HP · healing aura for nearby allies · revives 2× faster

Surge: heals you and every ally within 6 blocks for 8 HP and washes off Goo.

Kit: Pistol, 2 Medkits

Scout

60s
20 HP · 120% speed · spots the shrouded Monster's footprints from twice as far

Flare: reveals the Monster to everyone for 8 seconds, even while it's invisible.

Engineer

Barricade (slot 9): drops a fence wall. Alarm (slot 7): a tripwire that reveals the Monster. Barricades hold the Monster for about 5 seconds while it claws through. They share one cooldown.

Kit: Pistol, Hunting Rifle, Barricade Kit

The Monster: "The Hollow"

It crawled out of the old well. 260 HP, faster than you, sees in the dark, and heals when nobody's hurting it. Its claw does 7 damage. Humans hear a heartbeat that speeds up as it gets closer.

1 · Spit

4s

Acid glob: 6 damage on a direct hit, splash and poison around the impact.

2 · Goo

20s

Lobbed blob that leaves a sticky puddle for 6 seconds. Humans in it are slowed hard and can't jump.

3 · Shroud

120s

Invisible for 15 seconds, but it leaves glowing footprints that humans can see — watch the ground. Attacking ends it early.

4 · Brood Call

150s

Summons a random minion to hunt you (2 max): the wall-climbing Crawler, the Screamer whose shriek slows you and gives away your position, or the Stalker who teleports behind whoever's alone.

5 · Track

45s

Tracks a random human: for 15 seconds the Monster sees their trail glowing orange. You'll know — "YOU'RE BEING TRACKED" flashes up and your heart pounds. Keep moving, stick with your team.

Weapons & loot

Loot sits at 18 glowing spots (two on top of lookout towers) around the map and respawns 60–90 seconds after it's taken. Guns use ammo from your inventory and reload by themselves. You can't hurt teammates.

The map: Dust Hollow

A ruined sandstone town, 150 × 150 blocks, at night in thick dust fog. North is up.

Before it was Dust Hollow, it was Hollow Creek, a silver-mining town founded by Amos Pruitt. The Sunder Mine dug too deep and broke into something hollow under the town; the miners said they could hear a heartbeat in the rock. People went missing one by one: first Eli Pruitt, then Doc Hale who went looking for him, then the whole night shift. Marshal Ida Vance put up bounties and a curfew, and the chapel bell rang every night until the night it didn't. The Pit is what's left of the mine. Look around: the sheriff's notice wall, the saloon, the founders' stone, the mausoleum and the shrines all have something to say.
